The tale of my mother and Whatsapp
It has been five-years since Sami visited France to handle his studies in engineering. He could be courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon three times each year, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 yrs . old and will not work. When Sami announced to her which he could be likely to Paris to review, she was proud but also anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less during the night, considering how her son would survive life in France. In the cold to ladies to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother utilizing Skype and promised to call occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be adequate.
Nada spent plenty of her days waiting for that Skype notification to determine and speak to her son. Each time Sami returned home, he pointed out that her face increasingly showed signs of anxiety, which worried him a great deal. He became anxious but was believing that his diploma from France would provide him using a better life.
August 2017. Sami has just landed in Lebanon and goes where you can see his parents. He examines
his mother’s face and sees something different: she’s smiling and appears relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Combined with the technological advancements, WhatsApp was unveiled in the planet. This was revolutionary in several ways. Contrary to popular belief, it changed Nada’s life. She’s a simple learner and received a smartphone as a gift from her son. Sami is now able to share many details of his life along with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she could hear his voice any time throughout the day. She could also video-call him even if he is in the pub, in the different country. Sami sometimes shares pictures of his lunch, weather, an article of clothing he desired to buy, and even pictures of his new girlfriend. Whenever she’s anxious, she sends Sami an email, and a lot of the time, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technology has been criticized a lot lately as a reason why families are becoming distant, but in certain cases, specifically for people living abroad, it has changed their lives.
