The Right Way To Select The Best Carbide Burrs?

Carbide burrs, also known as carbide rotary burrs are widely-used with high-speed electric mills or die grinders to process metal, wood, plastics, etc. Carbide rotary burrs are popular in machinery, automobile, shipbuilding, chemical industry, craft carving, along with other industries. Selecting the right carbide burr on your project is important. There are several means of selecting a high-quality tungsten carbide rotary burr.

Shapes of tungsten carbide rotary burrs
The contour of the carbide rotary burr must be determined by the shape of the workpiece. When processing the interior arc surface, a semi-circular burr or round burr (small diameter workpiece) needs to be used; when processing the interior corner surface, triangular burrs should be selected; when processing the inner right angle surface, a designated burr and square burr may be selected. Once the flat burr is used to cut the inner right angle surface, it’s important to produce a narrow surface (smooth edge) without teeth near to one of several inner right angle surfaces, in order to avoid damaging the proper angle surface.

Tooth thickness of carbide rotary burrs
The thickness of burr teeth needs to be determined according to the allowance sized the workpiece, machining accuracy, and material properties. The coarse tooth carbide burr works for machining workpieces with large allowance, low dimensional accuracy, large form and position tolerance, large surface roughness value, and soft material; otherwise, fine-tooth carbide burr must be selected. When used, it needs to be chosen based on machining allowance, dimensional accuracy, and surface roughness essential for workpiece.

Sizes of carbide burrs
The dimensions and specification of cemented carbide rotary burr must be selected according to the sized the workpiece and machining allowance. Once the machining dimension is large and the allowance is big, cemented carbide rotary burr which has a large size should be selected, or perhaps a tungsten carbide rotary burr which has a small size should be selected instead.
