U.S. VETERAN Discovers Love FOR COSMETOLOGY DURING MILITARY SERVICE

The start: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and was enlisted at the age of 19. Her first duty station what food was in Okinawa, Japan, then a field operation in Korea. Every Sunday during Kristyl’s time in Korea, a barber would visit the site and provides haircuts to the Marines. But then, this happened: “I what food was in a tent doing my own hair,” shares Kristyl. “I would certainly do shape ups and line ups for me, nothing too crazy, after i had a Marine Sergeant move towards me and get me for the haircut. I needed never cut anybody’s hair before on the other hand jumped right into it anf the husband ended up loving it…and together with his outreach and leadership, literally the following day, I needed 13 Marines prearranged for me personally.”
This is actually the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering as being a future career-she chose charging $5 a haircut knowning that is it. Having a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair throughout the days. “As a Marine, the factors for appearance have reached an all-time high. The uniform should be squared away and ironed. Everything must be flush, measured properly-there’s a lot of focus on detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was considering Marines from head to feet. It tore up my heart because we’re the best possible people of this nation so we need to be walking around therefore. That’s where the impact over the internet and heart originated in, i seriously considered capable to transmit that through my hands to folks around me…and have them walk around feeling proud and good from top to bottom, and representing this nation as a result.”

After coming back from service, Kristyl asked herself what are the next challenge and chapter in her life could be. That’s when she decided to pursue her education being a barber at Bellus Academy.
