U.S. VETERAN Discovers Love FOR COSMETOLOGY DURING MILITARY SERVICE

Every hairstylist remember the moment they became captivated by hair as well as the passion for creativity who’s inspires. The storyplot was not different for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kristyl Rodrigues who discovered her love for hair while enrolled at Bellus Academy’s school of cosmetology in Poway, California. First: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and it was enlisted in the chronilogical age of 19. Her first duty station what food was in Okinawa, Japan, accompanied by a field operation in Korea. Every Sunday during Kristyl’s amount of time in Korea, a barber would look at the site and give haircuts towards the Marines. Then again, this happened: “I was at a tent doing my personal hair,” shares Kristyl. “I would likely do shape ups and line ups for me personally, nothing too crazy, after i were built with a Marine Sergeant approach me and get me for a haircut. I’d never cut anybody’s hair before however jumped straight into it anf the husband finished up loving it…and with his outreach and leadership, literally the very next day, I’d 13 Marines lined up for me personally.”

Here is the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering being a future career-she settled on charging $5 a haircut knowning that is it. Having a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair through the days. What Kristyl learned was profound: Hairdressers touch more hearts than heads and each time you service litigant, there’s impact.

The Impact of an Haircut
“As a Marine, the standards for appearance have reached an all-time high. The uniform has to be squared away and ironed. Everything has to be flush, measured properly-there’s a lot of attention to detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was considering Marines from top to bottom. It tore up my heart because we’re the finest people on this nation and that we have to be walking on therefore. That’s where the impact in my mind and heart originated, i thought about being able to transmit that through my hands to folks around me…and have them walk around feeling proud and good from head to feet, and representing this nation consequently.”

Similarities In Service: Military & Barbering
After getting back from service, Kristyl asked herself what are the next challenge and chapter in their life can be. That’s when she decided to pursue her education as a barber at Bellus Academy.
